Woman learning shibari at Shibari Bootcamp Leuven

Shibari is more than you think

This traditional Japanese practice is about creating DEEP EMOTIONAL CONNECTION through the conscious use of rope. It is a moving meditation in which the giver learns to remain fully ATTACHED while the receiver experiences what it means to truly GIVE OVER in safety.

In our practice you will discover:

  • ✨ How rope becomes a bridge for deep intimacy between people
  • ✨ The transformative power of conscious presence and touch
  • ✨ How physical restriction can create mental and emotional freedom
  • ✨ The art of boundaries – both delineating and respecting them
  • ✨ What it means to trust and be trusted at the deepest level
  • ✨ The silent power that arises when we dare to make ourselves vulnerable

This is not about tricks or techniques – it is about transformation. 🦋

Shibari Initiation Weekend

Levels 0 & 1A together in two days

You’ve already had a taste.

A few hours of rope, a flash of something that felt bigger than technique — and then the workshop was already over. It leaves you wanting more.

Shibari is the Japanese art of emotionally connected rope work. 🪢 No tricks. No spectacle. But a practice that revolves around PRESENCE — about giving and receiving trust, about connection that goes deeper than words.

You don’t learn that art in an hour. It requires space, guidance, and immersion. Most shibari introductions stop exactly where it gets interesting. Too many knots attempted in too little time, and no one taking the time to explain how to intentionally connect with the other person and create the necessary safety.

And for women who want to explore shibari: here you will find a framework that is clear from the start, where safety is given as much weight as the art itself, and where you are equally allowed to feel what it is to give this special experience as well as receive it. ✨

Saturday — the foundation: safety, philosophy, the basic principles that support everything that follows. For those who have never held a rope, this is where you build trust. For those who have already taken a basic workshop, this is where loose fragments finally come together as a whole.

Sunday — this is where it goes deeper. More technique, more nuance, the building blocks you learn to link into a FLOW yourself, carefully dosed pedagogically with intentional learning to connect. This is where the weekend does its real work.

What you take with you:

  • ✅ Fundamental philosophy: understanding Shibari as a philosophy, not just techniques
  • ✅ Essential Safety: Building knowledge to practice confidently and safely
  • ✅ Technical building blocks: A toolbox to build your own shibari flow
  • ✅ Focus on connection: learning how rope becomes a conductor for deep intimacy
  • ✅ Both roles: Each participant practices both as giver ALSO receiver
  • ✅ The philosophy and basics of shibari, safety (Level 0)
  • ✅ The building blocks to build a flow (Level 1A)
  • ✅ Safety as a foundation, present throughout the entire weekend, not just at the start
  • ✅ Sam and the spaceholders present throughout the entire weekend
  • ✅ A truly sufficient basis to start working independently and continue growing

For whom:

Sound familiar? You took an introductory workshop, maybe even two. Enough to know that there is something in shibari that touches you. Not enough to actually hold onto any of it.

This weekend is for you if:

  • 🌱 You took a basic workshop and felt there had to be more than what can fit into two hours
  • 🌱 You are tired of workshops that race from knot to knot without ever pausing for connection
  • 🌱 You have little time together as a couple and want to be able to use that time really deeply
  • 🌱 You are coming alone and find a safe practice partner here, someone who fits what feels good for you, without pressure
  • 🌱 You, alone or together, are ready to stop collecting and start deepening

Never held a rope before? That’s exactly why this weekend is also for you. We go far, but consciously, layer by layer: first safety and connection, then the technique that grows naturally from that, built up pedagogically. This way you build confidence, instead of gathering knowledge that you’ve already forgotten by Monday.

Not just another introduction. The place where the introduction finally leads somewhere.

Language: Dutch, unless stated otherwise. Max. 25 participants per edition.

“This weekend I let Sam take me into the world of shibari and what I discovered there went so much further than ropes and knots. Sam brings a style that revolves around connection, attention, and trust — within a clear and safe framework. During the demos, the entire atmosphere in the room changed. It suddenly became pin-drop silent. It touched, it opened, it invited.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“An absolute must for anyone who might be hesitating. A calm build-up in a safe environment, expert explanation with a touch of humor, interesting demos, and the necessary space to discover yourself in this.”

I am your guide to the world of shibari

My name is Sam. Since 2023, I have had the privilege of guiding more than 200 people who felt the same way. People who were tired of “just okay” and were ready for something that touches their SOUL. Our Shibari Initiations have already sold out more than 15 times – not because we teach the best knots, but because people find what they were looking for here: a place where they BELONG.

Going further in Shibari

Levels 1B, 2A and 2B (one full day per level)

You have practiced. You have felt what is possible. And now you want more — not because you are missing something, but because you KNOW there are deeper layers. 🔥

For those ready to continue that path, Studio ES organizes three in-depth days annually.

Level 1B builds directly on the Shibari Initiation Weekend. You are welcome as soon as you have completed the full weekend — and have truly practiced the skills of Level 1A until you master them. Time and dedication between levels is not a side issue. It is the core.

Level 2A and Level 2B are independent in-depth days that each explore a different dimension of Level 2. They build on the complete Level 1 — 1A and 1B. You may take them in any order. They are independent of each other and alternate year after year.

For all higher levels: you only register when you feel you have MASTERED the skills of the previous level. That is your responsibility — and it makes the difference between keeping up and truly growing.

The higher levels take place only once a year per level. Places are limited. Book your spot in time!

The Shibari Book (2025)

I have personally experienced the life-changing power of what happens when two people truly LET GO in each other’s presence. Those moments when rope is no longer rope, but becomes a bridge to something much bigger than ourselves.

For those who already feel what I am describing – who already know they belong here but want to understand more about WHAT this actually does to you – I have captured everything I have learned in “Rope & Release.” This is no instruction book. It is an invitation to prepare your heart for what you are about to experience. To understand why shibari can touch people so deeply. To feel in advance what is possible.

The book is there for when you are ready. For now: your presence here, your curiosity, your desire for more – that’s enough.

Are you ready?

The question is not whether you are “ready” – but whether you are READY to discover what is possible.

That curiosity you feel? Your body is telling you something IMPORTANT. You are ready for connection that changes you.

Your journey begins here:

Never tried it before? The Initiation Weekend welcomes you.
Ready for more? Shibari Intensives await you.
Want it more personal? Private lessons for your journey.
Need a rope? Shibari is best practiced with a high-quality natural rope (jute or hemp). Pre-treated and ready-to-use ropes are for sale at all our events.

Don’t wait for perfect circumstances. The people who transform are those who feel the calling and ACT.

The only question is: Are you ready to say YES to yourself? ✨
